Site CMS detection (CMS Detector)

Enter a page address: we will find out which CMS the site runs on and show the version, the WordPress theme and plugins, plus the web server, CDN, frameworks and analytics. No sign-up.

Try:

The check runs from our server: we open the page like a browser, look for characteristic signs in the code and headers and, if needed, make a few short requests to typical admin addresses. We do not store your queries together with your IP address.

Your first 30 tokens are on us

You know what the site runs on. But are its pages in Google?

The platform is only the foundation. Check which pages Google really keeps in its index and learn right away when they drop out.

  • Google indexing check for any URL, with the technical reason if the page is not in the index
  • Bulk checks of hundreds and thousands of URLs at once
  • Regular monitoring and an alert the same day a page drops out of the index

What CMS detection shows

How we detect a CMS

Every CMS leaves traces that anyone can see. We look for the generator meta tag, characteristic file paths in the code (for example /wp-content/ or /bitrix/), special response headers, cookie names and script fragments. Each sign has its own weight, and a CMS counts as found when the sum is convincing. If there are no traces in the code, we try a few typical admin addresses, but only on the same site and in a limited way.

Why you need to know a site’s CMS

Competitor analysisYou will see what sites in your niche run on and judge how quickly they can be matched or surpassed.
Buying a siteBefore buying a project, find out the platform, theme and plugins: the cost of support and the options for changes depend on them.
SecurityAn outdated CMS or plugin version is the main cause of hacks. See what is visible from the outside and hide the extra.
Development and migrationBefore a move or rework you need to know the current platform, hosting and technologies.

Why a CMS cannot always be detected

Custom engines, headless sites on Next.js or Nuxt, and sites with generator switched off and paths closed have no characteristic traces. Cache and CDN sometimes hide part of the headers too. In such cases we will still show at least the web server, CDN, frameworks and analytics. It is also worth checking the site’s HTTP headers and hosting by IP.

What else to check after CMS detection

If it is your site, make sure the pages are available to search: Robots.txt Checker shows blocked sections, and SSL Checker checks the certificate. Whether pages made it into Google is checked by the page indexing check.

Limits of the check

We analyse one page without running JavaScript, so signs that appear only in the browser may be invisible. We show the version only when the site reveals it itself. The result is approximate: the accuracy of such methods is usually about 80–85%, and a site may deliberately hide or fake traces.

What else StayIndexed can do

This page is a free tool from the StayIndexed service. In your account you can save a list of URLs, refresh the check in one click and see when the CMS, version or plugins changed (also free), while the main job of the service is to track how your pages are doing in Google.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out which CMS a site runs on?

Enter the page address in the form above: we will analyse the code and headers and show the CMS, its version, the WordPress theme and plugins, plus the server, CDN and frameworks.

Can a CMS be detected if it is hidden?

Not always. If generator is switched off, paths are changed and the site is custom-built or headless, there are no characteristic signs. Then we will show other technologies: the web server, CDN, frameworks, analytics.

How do I find out the CMS version?

The version is visible only if the site reveals it itself, for example in the generator meta tag. This is handy for attackers, so on your own site it is better to hide the version.

How do I identify a WordPress theme and plugins?

They are visible from the file paths in the page code: /wp-content/themes/name and /wp-content/plugins/name. We show the theme and plugins loaded on this very page.

How accurate is CMS detection?

Such methods recognise a CMS in about 80–85% of cases. Mistakes are possible on sites behind heavy caching or a CDN and on custom engines, so treat the result as approximate.

How much does CMS detection cost?

Nothing: the check is free both on this page and in your StayIndexed account. In your account you can save a list of URLs, refresh the check in one click and see the history of CMS, version and plugin changes.
