How the speed test works
What the results mean
For website owners: besides the connection, it is worth checking the indexing of pages too.
What internet speed you need
Approximate values for one user. If several people use the internet at the same time, the speeds add up.
| What you do | Speed |
|---|---|
| Browsing websites, email, messengers | 3–5 Mbps |
| HD video | 5–10 Mbps |
| Video calls and online learning | 3–8 Mbps |
| 4K video | from 25 Mbps |
| Online games | 5–15 Mbps and ping under 50 ms |

Why the result is lower than your plan
- Wi-Fi. The distance to the router, walls and obstacles, and a congested 2.4 GHz band significantly reduce speed.
- Other devices and programs. Downloads, updates or streaming during the test take part of the channel.
- The provider's network. At peak hours the speed is lower, and the plan's megabits are a maximum, not a guarantee.
- The device and browser. A weak computer or dozens of open tabs may not be able to “pull” a fast channel.
- VPN. Adds latency and usually lowers speed.
For a more accurate measurement, connect to the router with a cable, close unnecessary programs, turn off the VPN and repeat the test several times at different times.
Internet speed and website speed are different things
The test above shows the speed of your connection. How fast your website opens depends on the site itself: the server, page size, scripts and images. If the internet is fast but the site is slow, look for the cause in the site: check page speed with Google PageSpeed.
What else StayIndexed can do
This page is a free tool from the StayIndexed service. What we mainly do is track how your pages are doing in Google: whether they are indexed, how fast they load and whether bought links have disappeared.
How much it costs
Payment is in tokens. One check of any service = 3 tokens. 30 tokens are credited at sign-up — enough for 10 checks, no card required.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check my internet speed?
Press the “Start test” button: the browser will measure ping and jitter, then download and upload speed. The test takes about a minute.
What are ping and jitter?
Ping is the server response time in milliseconds, the lower the better. Jitter is the fluctuation of the ping between requests: the more stable the connection, the lower it is.
What is the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
Internet speed is measured in megabits, file size in megabytes. A byte has eight bits, so 100 Mbps is about 12.5 MB/s at best.
Why is the speed in the test lower than the one in my plan?
Wi-Fi, the load on the provider's network, other devices, your computer's power and VPN all have an effect. For a more accurate result, connect with a cable and turn off the VPN.
What speed is needed for comfortable work?
Approximately: websites and email — from 3–5 Mbps, HD video — from 5–10, 4K video — from 25 Mbps, video calls — 3–8 Mbps per person.
Is this test accurate?
It measures the speed to the nearest Cloudflare server, so the result is approximate and may differ from other tests. For comparison, run it several times.
