What a WHOIS check shows
- Registration date and domain age — how many years and months the domain has existed since its first registration.
- Expiry date and how many days are left — so you do not miss the renewal.
- Registrar — the company through which the domain is registered.
- Domain statuses — for example, a ban on transfer or deletion.
- Name servers — where the domain's DNS is currently hosted.
Why you might need to know a domain's age
Does domain age affect SEO
Google states that domain age by itself is not a ranking factor. Still, indirectly it matters: old sites usually have accumulated links, history and trust, while new domains take longer to “warm up”. So age is worth considering as an additional signal, not as a guarantee of rankings.
What happens if a domain expires
After the expiry date most registrars give a grace period when the domain can still be renewed at the normal price. Then the domain may enter a redemption stage where getting it back costs much more, and only afterwards does it become available for anyone to register. The safest approach is to renew the domain in advance or enable auto-renewal.
Which zones are supported
More than a thousand zones through RDAP, including .com, .net, .org, .ua, .in.ua, .com.ua, .top, .dev, .pl, .uk, and a few more zones through classic WHOIS (.io, .me, .co, .us, .it). Some registries (.de, .ch) do not publish dates, and some zones (.ru) are unreachable from our server — in such cases we will tell you so directly.
What else StayIndexed can do
This page is a free tool from the StayIndexed service. In your account you can save a list of domains and see the history of their changes (also free), while the main job of the service is to track how your pages are doing in Google.
How much it costs
Domain checks are free, both on this page and in your account. Tokens are used to pay for the other services: indexing, speed and backlinks cost 3 tokens per check. 30 tokens are credited at sign-up, no card required.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out a domain's age?
Enter the domain in the form above: we will query the registry and show the registration date and the domain's age in years and months.
What are WHOIS and RDAP?
WHOIS is an old protocol through which registries provide information about a domain. RDAP is its modern successor with a single JSON format. We use RDAP, and classic WHOIS for zones without it.
Why can't I see the domain owner?
After GDPR most registrars hide the owner's personal data. Dates, registrar, statuses and name servers remain public. We neither show nor collect personal data.
Does domain age affect Google rankings?
Google states that domain age by itself is not a ranking factor, but old domains more often have history, links and trust, so age is useful as an indirect indicator.
What happens if a domain expires?
There is usually a grace period for renewing at the normal price, then the domain may enter a redemption stage where getting it back costs more, and only then does it become available. It is better to renew in advance.
Which domain zones are supported?
Over 1000 zones through RDAP (including .com, .ua, .in.ua, .com.ua, .top) and a few zones through classic WHOIS. Some registries do not publish dates: in such cases we will tell you.
How much does a WHOIS check cost?
Nothing: the check is free both on this page and in your StayIndexed account. In your account you can save a list of your domains, refresh it in one click and see the history of changes to the expiry date, registrar and name servers.
